يمتد تاريخ منطقة حائل إلى عصور ما قبل التاريخ ومروراً بعصر ما قبل الإسلام والعصور الإسلامية حيث كانت من أحصن المواضع في جزيرة العرب وقد حماها هذا من غزو ملوك الحيرة في العراق وكذلك ملوك الغساسنة في الشام , حتى توحيد المملكة العربية السعودية في عام 1351هـ (1932م).
