أَعُوذُ بِكلِمَاتِ الله التّامّاتِ مِن شَرّ مَا خَلَقَ

A’uzu bikalimatillahit-tammaati min syarri ma kholak

I seek protection in the perfect words of Allah from every evil that has been created

(Sahih Muslim)

dua for protection from evil eye

The evil eye comes from a look of admiration that a person has onto another. When you see something that you like in another, even if you are not jealous of them or anything, you may actually inflict them with the evil eye and cause that thing you admired to be destroyed.

أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّةِ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ وَهَامَّةٍ وَمِنْ كُلِّ عَيْنٍ لاَمَّةٍ

“A’udhu bi kalimatil-lahil- tammati, min kulli shaitanin wa hammah, wa min kulli ‘aynin lammah (I seek refuge for you both in the Perfect Words of Allah, from every devil and every poisonous reptile, and from every evil eye)”. (Sunan Ibn Majah)

This was the dua that Prophet Ibraheem (as) used to make for his sons, and also that which Prophet Muhammad (saw) used to make for his grandchildren, Hassan and Hussein.

This is a dua against evil eye especially for children, and for Muslim parents and caregivers, we should endeavour to recite this dua for the children every day even if they are old enough to recite other duas against the evil eye by themselves.

dua for protection from shirk

With regard to minor shirk, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) warned us against it, fearing that his ummah might fall into it. He (ﷺ) said: “The thing I fear most for you is minor shirk.” [Narrated by Ahmad, 23119. al-Albaani said in al-Silsilah al-Saheehah (951): its isnaad is jayyid]. And he said: “Shirk among you is more subtle than the sound of the footsteps of an ant on a rock. Shall I not tell you of something which, if you do it, it will take that away from you, both minor and major forms of it. Say:

الَّلهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ أُشْرِكَ بِكَ وأَنا أَعلَمُ وأَستَغفِرُكَ لما لا أَعلَمُ

Allahumma inni a`udhu bika an ushrika bika wa ana a`lamu wa astaghfiruka lima la a`lamu

(O Allah I seek refuge in You from knowingly associating partners with You, and I seek Your forgiveness for that which I do not know)

[Narrated by al-Bukhari in al-Adab al-Mufrad p. 250, No. 716, Ahmad 4/403, Al-Diya Al-Maqdisi 1/45, Ibn Al-Sunni in Amal Yawn wal-Layla No. 258 , Hanad in Al-Zuhd, 2/434 No. 849, Al-Hakim Al-Tirmidhi, 4 / 142, and Abu Yala 1/60 No. 58, and authenticated by al-Albani in Sahih al-Adab al-Mufrad, p. 266, No. 551, Sahih ul-Jami’ As-Saghir 3/233 No. 3731 and Sahih ut-Targhib wat- Tarhib 1/19]

This Hadeeth has a supporting narration in the Hadeeth of Abu Moosa al- Ash’aree (رضي الله عنه), who said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) addressed us that day and said: “O People! Protect yourselves from this Shirk (associating partners with Allah, in that which is from His exclusive rights). Indeed, it is more hidden than the crawling of the ant.” Then, one whom Allāh willed to speak to him, said: How can we protect ourselves from it when it is more hidden than the crawling of the ant, O Messenger of Allāh? He (ﷺ) said: Say: “O Allāh! We seek refuge with You from associating anything with You knowingly, and we seek Your forgiveness for that which we do unknowingly.” [Reported by Ahmad in ‘al-Musnad, 4/403. Al-Albānee (Rahimahullāh) declared it to be Hasan Li-ghairihi (good/acceptable, due to other supporting narrations) in ‘Saheeh at-Targheeb wat-Tarheeb’, no. 36]
